Amid the pandemic's onset, Aby and Tare, with extra time due to global lockdowns, pursued creating the perfect beard oil. Fueled by a shared passion for grooming and entrepreneurship, we researched tirelessly until realising their ideal product. We involved our friend Oje, experienced in business and project management, who eagerly joined. In January 2021, Beard Surgeon debuted, offering meticulously crafted beard and hair care items. Our dedication to quality and unique scents set our business apart. With a strong online presence and adaptability to market shifts, Beard Surgeon quickly gained a devoted following, and has seen its turnover and market share continue to increase.

Beard Surgeon is combining the grooming and perfumery industries to create affordable luxury scented grooming products, enabling customers to smell good, look good and feel good. Our mission is to become the most desired male grooming brand starting in Europe. By creating a unique customer experience, Beard Surgeon provides men in the UK and around the world with a safe and comfortable environment to learn the importance of male grooming and test new products. With a combined market value of $89 billion the perfumery and male grooming market is crying out for natural-scented products and oils that rival the most desirable perfumes. In a world that grows ever more conscious of the environment and synthetics, naturally-scented products are becoming progressively more sought after. Enter Beard Surgeon.

We currently have two kiosks - one in Stratford and the other in Westfield. We’re looking to expand our Westfield kiosk, as well as expanding out to Manchester with the help of Crowd2Fund and their investors. Our products are sought after by beard aficionados, as well as plenty of other men just looking to take care of their beard and hair.

Credit Commentary:
The directors Omoghioje Ohonyon, Garry Oyintare and Alex Ncho are providing a personal guarantee, which means should the business fail and have insufficient assets within the business to repay the loan, we can look to the guarantor(s) to repay any shortfall on repayment. There have been no CCJs for the business or director. Our assessment of risk is based on the Equifax score and grade, which rely on the 2024 accounts. The recent accounts show that the company’s turnover has improved by £481k, but the gross margin has remained relatively static. As a result, the EBITDA is modest at around £65k, which is in line with our credit policy. Additionally, the company’s ability to pay its current debt obligations can be evaluated by examining its Debt Servicing Capacity (2.90) and Net Gearing Rate (4%). The bank statements indicate reasonable affordability, and the accounts remain well in credit.

Inflation risk:
As most of the business’s lending is at a fixed rate, any increase in interest rates will not have an immediate impact on them. The directors have no plans to withdraw funds from the business, as they will be utilized for the expansion of the business.
